We are excited to begin reading our next novel - Lafcadio. We will be reading this purely for appreciation. We will discuss the story every week in class and do an activity after we have finished reading the book.
Besides writing our own stories, we are also learning to write instructions. We will be writing instructions to make our favourite sandwich and pizza, besides many other instructions on how to.....
We look forward to an engaging and exciting time of following various instructions to make and do things in class and at home.
Having learnt the spelling rules for changing singular nouns to plural nouns, we have now moved onto learning the spelling rules for changing singular verbs to plural verbs.
We are also learning about Adverbs.
One of the main areas of our focus this year is in presentation of neat work. We have begun to learn cursive writing and will be following through with a handwriting program. Besides this we also have a dedicated reading time, which is helping us hone our reading skills.
Busy Reading!
We have completed our unit on Nelson Mandela and the system of racial segregation that was prevalent in South Africa. Our discussions on apartheid were informative and interesting. Nelson Mandela's life, his contribution to the struggle against Apartheid, and as the first Democratically elected president of South Africa was inspiring .
In our next unit we will be looking at a few tribes in Africa. This unit promises to be colourful, informative and exciting.

Measurement
1. Time
· Suggest and use suitable units to
measure time and know the relationships
between them (second, minute, hour,
day, week, month, year).
· Identify and show time– O’clock, half
past, quarter to/past, minutes past/ to the
hour
· Read the time on analogue and digital
clocks, to the nearest 5 minutes on an
analogue clock and to the nearest minute
on a digital clock.
• Read time to the closest 5 minutes
· Begin to calculate simple time intervals in
hours and minutes.
• Write the time, draw on an analog clock
• Know the difference between AM/ PM ,
12 hour format
· Read a calendar and calculate time
intervals in weeks or days.
· Recall and show days, weeks and
months in a year
Shapes
• Identifying and classifying shapes
• Identify, describe and draw regular and
irregular 2D shapes including pentagons,
hexagons, octagons and semi-circles.
• Identify 2D, 3D shapes and recall their
commonly used names
• Classify 2D shapes according to the
number of sides, vertices .
• Identify common polygons and recall their
commonly used names
• Identify, describe and make 3D shapes
including pyramids and prisms;
• Identify 2D and 3D shapes, lines of
symmetry and right angles in the
environment.
• Describe 3D shapes using appropriate
vocabulary
• Classify 3D shapes according to the
number and shape of faces, number of
vertices and edges.
• Describe and classify plane and
geometric shapes according to the
number of faces, edges and vertices
• Recognize and Identify the lines of
symmetry
• Complete patterns with one or two lines
of symmetry
• Use and apply the knowledge to build 3D
shapes and draw/make 2D shapes.
• Collect data
• Represent data
• Display and interpret horizontal and vertical bar graphs.
